Over the past few weeks, the ASEL team; Kamau Mbarire, Samuel Thuo Mungai Thuo, and Muiru Kamau —embarked on an inspiring journey across Kenya’s diverse coffee-growing regions.

From the fertile slopes of Mt. Elgon, through the expansive Rift Valley, and culminating in the iconic slopes of Mt. Kenya, we connected with passionate smallholder farmers, emerging estates, and dynamic cooperatives championing the future of Kenyan coffee.

We had the privilege of visiting:
• Chesiro FCS, Chebwek FCS, Tuikut FCS in Bungoma
• Medium estates like MataFam and Kabanja in Bungoma
• Meteitei FCS in Nandi
Kiqwetu Coffee Ltd, Humkel, Chebirir, and Shotokan in Kericho
• Michatha Coffee in Ngarua, Laikipia
Project Mocha and PME Coffee in Embu
• Marigwe Farm & Kiera Hill Farm in Chogoria
• And concluded at the inspiring, women-owned & managed Dada Saba Farm in Nyaribo, Nyeri.

As a gesture of appreciation, we shared freshly roasted Jungle Harvest Limited Coffee with the farmers—a small token to celebrate the spirit of collaboration.

Our conversations touched on:
– Organic & Rainforest Alliance Certification
– Sustainability & Regenerative Agriculture
– Compliance with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)
– Market access, direct export
– Adoption of tech in the coffee value chain
– Women & youth involvement in the coffee value chain

There’s a growing awakening in the coffee sector, especially in non-traditional growing areas—rich with potential, innovation, and purpose.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be profiling the incredible producers we met and showcasing their unique stories. Stay tuned as we spotlight the changemakers shaping the future of coffee in Kenya.
